The owners of a Honda Civic contacted the Salt Lake City Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen.
A police officer verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.
Later in the day troopers with the Utah Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.
Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the Honda to the area of 300 West and 700 North in Salt Lake City. There they were joined by officers from the Salt Lake City PD.
The thieves had attempted to conceal the purple Civic with some boards and brush that they piled around the car; an indication that they may have been considering returning to the Civic later for further use.
The Civic was recovered undamaged before it could be stripped or used in other crimes and returned to the very happy owners.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in June 2008 at Findlay Volkswagen in Henderson, Nevada.
