On a recent Thursday morning, construction workers arrived at their job site in Walled Lake, MI, and discovered that a 2012 Melroe T190 Track Loader had been stolen. The owners of the company wanted to protect their very costly assets, so this machine had the LoJack® system installed when it was purchased. Local law enforcement, with help from LoJack, recovered the track loader despite it being hidden in a very secluded area.
On May 22nd, 2014, a foreman for the construction company contacted the Walled Lake Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the transponder concealed in the Melroe.
A short while later, deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Michigan State Police picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Melroe was located in a remote area of Walled Lake, parked and abandoned in a heavily wooded section. After a brief surveillance, the track loader, valued at $35,500, was retrieved and soon returned to the job site.
