This case involves a Chevrolet Silverado that was among a group of machines stolen from a rural area in Hammocks, FL recently. The other items involved were a tractor, a “lowboy” trailer, a skid steer loader and a mini-excavator. The victims had installed the LoJack® system on the pickup, which helped local law enforcement recover it later that same day, and locate the other stolen equipment as well.
On Monday morning, April 14th, 2014, the Chevy’s owner contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report the crime. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Silverado, which was installed at Maroone Chevrolet in Pembroke Pines, FL.
Just a few minutes later, a Miami-Dade PD sergeant picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen pickup on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. After requesting backup, the sergeant located the Chevy, along with the other missing equipment, parked and abandoned near S.W. 225th Street and 119th Avenue. The Silverado was retrieved, along with the rest of the stolen machines. All were soon returned to their extremely happy owner.
