The owner of a Jeep Commander in Jacksonville, FL, was being helpful when he dropped a relative off at the airport and assisted with bringing the luggage inside. While he did this, he left his SUV running and unlocked, and when he returned to the curb, he discovered thieves had ‘helped themselves’ and the vehicle was gone. Local police, with help from the LoJack® system, were able to recover it in less than 90 minutes after activation.
On February 17th, 2014, the Jeep’s owner contacted the Jacksonville Aviation Authority Police to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Commander, which was installed at Midway Jeep Chrysler in La Mesa, CA.
A short while later, deputies from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Deputies located the Jeep in the parking lot of a strip mall. After a brief surveillance, the undamaged Commander was retrieved and soon returned to its grateful owner.
