The LoJack® System Helps Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Recover Two Vehicles Stolen From Dealership with Fraudulent Identities

Recently, an auto dealer in Charlotte, NC had a customer who had bought two vehicles, a 2014 Dodge Challenger and a 2012 Mercedes Benz C250, within a month and was not making her monthly loan payments. Further investigation revealed that the customer had used fraudulent information at the time of purchase.  The dealership reported the crime to local police, who had an advantage thanks to the LoJack® systems installed in both cars. With LoJack’s assistance, both vehicles were recovered.

On February 6th, 2014, the dealership reported the crimes to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). Officers verified the theft by fraud and entered the vehicles’ information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack units concealed in the Mercedes and Dodge.

A while later, CMPD officers picked up the homing signals from the stolen Dodge on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They located the Challenger in a commercial business employee parking lot. A man at the business claimed to be the husband of the Dodge’s ‘registered owner’ and was questioned by police. During that same afternoon, CMPD located the undamaged Mercedes, parked and abandoned in a snow storm, on a road just off I-85. Both vehicles were retrieved and soon returned to the grateful dealership.
