When a Cadillac Escalade is stolen overnight in Texas, local law enforcement, assisted by the LoJack® system, recover it and a lot more- two other stolen cars, four pieces of construction equipment, and the makings of an international chop shop operation.
On October 27th, 2013, the Cadillac’s owner contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Department to report the crime. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Escalade, which was installed at Capital Cadillac in Smyrna, GA.
A short while later, an officer from the Houston PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the Cadillac to a residential area, where it was parked in front of a private residence. The driveway at the home had 2 other stolen cars with VIN plates removed. Four pieces of stolen construction equipment with missing VIN numbers were also discovered. The total value of recovered machines was $95,000. A person at the scene was taken into custody. Investigation later revealed that the suspect was stealing vehicles and machines, changing the identification, and selling them in Mexico. The Escalade was soon returned to its relieved owner.
