This case features a nightmarish situation- a 2012 Honda Civic was stolen from the victim’s residence in Staten Island, NY, after the thief broke into her home, took valuables and her car keys, and used the Civic to get away.
On July 2nd, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted the NYPD 120th Precinct to report the break-in and missing car. The responding officers verified the theft and entered the car’s information into the NYPD stolen vehicle computer and the NCIC national stolen vehicle system. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Civic, which was installed at Bay Ridge Honda Volvo in Brooklyn, NY.
A short time later, officers from the NYPD 120th precinct picked up the homing signal from the Honda on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked it to a residential street in the Park Hill section of Staten Island. After a brief surveillance, they recovered the abandoned Civic and soon returned it to its very grateful owner, who felt that without LoJack, her car would never have been recovered.
