There are many auto thieves who are repeat offenders. They keep stealing other people’s vehicles until they are caught. In this case, the NYPD, helped by the LoJack® system, track down a 2013 Porsche Panamera stolen in New Jersey, and recover a second stolen Porsche in the process.
On May 8th, 2013, the Panamera’s owner contacted the Newark, NJ police to report that her vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint while she was stopped in traffic. The Newark PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Panamera, which was installed at Paul Miller Porsche in Parsippany, NJ.
A short time later, detectives from the New York City Police Manhattan North Auto Crime Unit picked up the homing signals from the stolen Panamera on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. The NYPD detectives tracked the vehicle to a parking lot in Harlem. There, they arrested two suspects who also had a stolen 2013 Porsche Cayenne in their possession. The total value for both recovered vehicles is $200,000. The Panamera was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
