On the morning of February 26th , the owner of a construction company in Southwest Philadelphia arrived at his business to discover that it had been burglarized. The company owner reviewed surveillance video and discovered that an unknown male had cut a a hole in the fence that surrounded the storage yard and got into a company truck. The male is observed in the surveillance video as he drove the truck towing an Ingersoll Rand Air Compressor to the front gate of the storage yard. He then cut the lock from the gate and subsequently drove off with both the truck loaded with tools and the air compressor.

The construction company owner called 911 and a Philadelphia Police Officer arrived to investigate the incident. The officer interviewed the owner and notified the Philadelphia Police Southwest Detective Division regarding the burglary. As the detective interviewed the owner he was informed that the air compressor was equipped with a LoJack™ Stolen Vehicle Recovery System. The detective had the stolen air compressor’ s information entered into the Pennsylvania State Police Computer, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the stolen air compressor.

A short while later, officers from Upper Darby Police and Philadelphia Police picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the air compressor on the Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the air compressor to the 1000 block of 68th Street. The assigned detective arrived at the site and processed the air compressor for physical evidence and subsequently returned the air compressor to the construction site owner.

The stolen company truck, which did not have a LoJack is still being sought by police.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2011 Ingersoll Rand Air Compressor in 2011.
